Grace STEAM Cooperative

ABOUT

Registration is now open through June 16

GSC stands for Grace STEAM Cooperative and it exists to support Christian homeschooling families such that “Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

The purpose of GSC is to provide our children with educational opportunities that promote academic excellence and spiritual development in class settings under the supervision of other Christian home schooling parents.

GSC meets on Tuesday mornings from 9:00am - 12:15pm for 30 weeks beginning in mid-August to mid-April, with a long Christmas break between Thanksgiving and the New Year. GSC provides 3 academic class periods for 4th - 12th grade students, 6 short periods of alternating learning and fun for preK - 3rd grade students, and a nursery for infants and toddlers. GSC offers English, History, and Science for all students during the morning class periods.  GSC will also offer optional electives of various types for students to enjoy after a short lunch period.  Updated information on specific classes, electives, ans available teaching positions will be available soon.

GSC is not a “drop-off” program. In fact, it is only by the active involvement of our parents, and the extreme generosity of the church, that GSC is able to function without a lot of expense to our families. Parents are required to teach or co-teach a class, and will assist in a class. Parents must remain on the premises for the entire co-op day, and will be provided with a free hour which they may spend in the parent room interacting with other parents or just sipping some coffee and reading a book.

DUES

Participation cost in the co-op is just $20 per student, per year, with a maximum family charge of $60 per year. Once the GSC application has been approved, dues may be paid online, or directly to Grace Fellowship via check or cash and are non-refundable. Additionally, a $10 non-refundable application fee, per family, is required at the time of registration.

DISCIPLINE

In an effort to maintain a safe and educationally effective environment, GSC expects children to be respectful and obedient as outlined in the Student Commitment Form. Disciplinary issues will be handled according to the Matthew 18 paradigm:

  • The teacher will address the disciplinary issue with the student. In the event that the issue is not resolved;
  • The teacher will speak to the student and their parent in the presence of a leadership team member. In the event that the issue is not settled;
  • The Leadership team will address the issue with the teacher, parent and student, which could lead to dismissal from the co-op.

STUDENT SAFETY

In order to meet Pennsylvania State requirements and insure the safety of our children, each participating parent must provide a 3-part clearance:

  • part 1:  Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (no charge)
  • part 2: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (no charge)
  • part 3: FBI Criminal Background Check (fee required, at own expense) OR a signed affidavit (no charge), if eligible*

*Those who have resided in Pennsylvania consecutively for the past ten years may be eligible to sign an affidavit affirming no criminal record and no current charges of any crime enumerated in the affidavit.

Upon approval of your application, instructions will be provided.

  • If you obtained your certification within the previous 60 months you may serve in a volunteer capacity for any program, activity or service. You have until 60 months from the date of your oldest certification to renew your certifications, and to obtain any certifications now required that may not have been previously required; i.e., if your organization required the Child Abuse certification, but not the PSP certification, when your Child Abuse certification expires (based on the 60 month cycle), you would naturally add in any of the other required certifications (1,2,3, above).
