Are you interested in helping us reach York City?
2016-2017 Community Opportunities
1. At Farquhar Park (across from Ferguson K-8 school) you can work with your hands to maintain a city park that Grace Fellowship adopted years ago. We are the “Angels in the Park” and partner with York City Parks and Recreation to provide a safe, clean place for residents to enjoy.
2. Our Community Outreach at Ferguson K-8 is in need of a basketball coach and assistant coach from October 2016 through March 2017. We reach out as local missionaries to win students to Christ and train them in basketball skills. They participate in a city league and compete with other student teams. Practices are Thursday evening 6:30-8 PM and Sunday 3:30-5 PM. Games are held Wednesday evenings and Saturday morning during February and March.
3. In three York City Schools we have established a presence, reaching out to students, parents and faculty. Our goal is to enrich lives during the school instructional day and “cast nets and feed sheep” at other times. Below are opportunities to choose from and be trained by Pastor Bob to be a successful servant of God in this unique setting.
a. Parent Café- Cafés are held once a month in three different schools. They are Thursday evenings from 5-7 PM. Lead a small group, work with children, or serve food.
b. “Sundays at Ferguson” is about working with elementary students in a controlled environment where they learn Bible lessons, do a craft, and interact with adults. We meet Sunday afternoons during the school year from 3-5:30 PM. If you are gifted as a teacher, enjoy leading a craft time, or just love children, this opportunity is for you.
c. Parent Mentoring is School Board approved program written by Pastor Bob to help parents become better in their role as a parent. We need adults to meet one-on-one with parents to help them navigate life. You would need to devote one hour a week for six weeks to a family. Pastor Bob will train you and be available to help you when questions arise.
d. Musicals are a unique partnership between Grace Fellowship, Penn State York, and Ferguson K-8. Grace leads this middle school endeavor to teach children how to perform in a musical, build sets, paint, design costumes, learn sound and lighting skills, and design graphics for advertisement. Many hands make this part of each student’s educational experience successful. If you enjoy middle school students, the arts, and love building relationships, you will enjoy this outreach.
4. “Wednesdays at Hamilton Avenue” reaches into the community, visiting and talking with neighbors and has a meal and Bible study throughout the year. We want to reach people with the Gospel and then disciple them in their faith. We meet each Wednesday from 5-7 PM for the meal and Bible Study and the visit in the community from 6-7:30 PM (weather permitting).
